Food web
Food Web:
Sun
Producers: bamboo shoots, berries/fruit, flowers, nuts, and seeds.
Primary Consumer: mouse, bugs, iguana/lizards
Secondary consumer: aye-aye, lemurs, bats, and frogs,
Tertiary consumers: snakes, and mongoose.
Apex: crocodile, and the fossa.
Decomposers: mushrooms, cockroaches, slugs, and bacteria.
Chemical Substance SCENARIO
If there was a toxic chemical that was introduced to the food web, the aye-aye would greatly be affected, along with other animals. Right now aye-ayes are endangered and this chemical could potentially wipe out their population. Aye's mainly eat plants and bugs. If those bugs or plants had the chemical then the aye-aye ate it, they would be greatly affected, then something eats the aye-aye, then that animal has it. The other animals that eat those bugs could also be affected as well as change the entire food web. The toxin would be passed on to everything with bio-magnification. As the toxin gets spread around, it would bio-accumulate in every animal. The apex take up the most biomass so then they would be last to get the toxin because everything else has already died. The biomass wouldn't probably change very much if the aye-aye passed it on because they mainly eat plants and there is very few of them.
The food web for aye-ayes would majorly be affected if the lemur died out. The lemur is a major food source for a lot of the animals in Madagascar because there is a significant amount of them there. Animals that mainly eat lemurs are mongoose and fossas. No more lemurs means that those animals higher on the food chain are going to have to find other sources of food. Then whatever animal eats that food doesn't have food, then the same happens again to another animal, and so on. Eventually those Apex Predators are going to have to eat their own species if theirs no other food sources for them.
